A painter from Saraguro in the heart of Europe

My name is Lauro Minga. I was attracted to art from an early age. I was born in Saraguro, on
the barren slopes of the Ecuadorian region of the Andes, in the land of Indians. I was
sheltered by fabric of traditional colours that looked like the rhythm of a rainbow in the wind.
I would later paint this onto canvas, as well as the birds that hung around my house.

I developed a passion for drawing and, during my student years this helped me earn a living
by taking commissions from my classmates to draw perspective pieces. I continued creating
particular works of my interest, dedicating much of my free time to passion, trying to develop
my own style until the moment I enrolled in the private drawing school LINEA Y
PINCELADA in Ecuador’s capital, Quito.

There I learned techniques how to play with colour, and at the same time I came into contact
with great masters such as Hernan Cueva and Manuel Serrano, in whose studio I really
consolidated my knowledge.

After completing my studies I returned to my hometown to make my art known, I had only
three exhibitions there. In 2003 I moved on into the heart of Europe, I settled in the capital of
Hungary, Budapest where I refined my technique that I developed but it turned out to be very
opaque, and since I carry the colours of the Andean world in my veins, that is what I captured
here. I define my painting technique EXPRESSIONIST GEOMETRIC.

My paintings are full of colours to give life to what has no life, to give joy to grey
civilisations, and they also reflect my feelings and what I miss from my world. I carry the
colours in my soul, the brushes dance to the sound of the Andean winds as I paint, my world
opens up in a unique colourful palette.

My heart’s delight: Ecuador

“…Ecuador, the birthplace of Laruo Minga, is the smallest country in South America. For me, it is very sympathetic, not only because of its friendly people and its changeable beauty, but also because it has been as tormented by history as Hungary…”
