“In October 2005, upon arriving in Hungary, I had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Ivan Nyíri, Honorary Consul of Ecuador in Budapest. In a long and pleasant conversation he mentioned that he would like to promote the idea of a mural by the Ecuadorian painter Lauro Minga, which I supported with enthusiasm.”

“Today his dreams have become reality and thanks to his tenacious effort, talent and creativity, I have the satisfaction of being present at this emotional inauguration of his work “Customs of the Andes”.”

“The mural that we see here today represents the joy of the Andean festivals of three countries: Bolivia, Ecuador and Peru. This 24-meter-long series of images captures the joy of Andean people and the colorful world inspired by the nature of the places of the mountain range.”

“The traditional festivals seen from the indigenous cosmovision serve as inspiration for Lauro, who takes us on a journey to his roots and his personal memories: from the San Juan festivals in the city of Otavalo, he transports us to the Sagsa Guaman of Peru, to arrive at the end in the Oruro carnivals.”

“The joy of the Saraguro people during these festivities is captured through surreal characters, who in their typical outfits of black poncho and white hat, very smiling by the way, watch with interest as the dancing women braid an imaginary slippery stick.”

“When inaugurating the mural, I have two aspirations:

I hope that the Hungarian people will get to know the work of art, for which I am sure that you, Mr. Consul, will continue to offer your collaboration, both to the Embassy and to the Ecuador Association. I hope that those who see the mural will be encouraged to visit my country and the Andean region.”
